Felicity Acres' Female Llamas

Our female llamas are great fun to observe. You can learn the responsibilities that each one assumes within the herd. Each one has definite and different tasks. For instance, there is the leader (Muffet above) who ascertains if it is safe to proceed out into the field or that it is time to get in out of the weather. Adolescent females are given the responsibility of looking after crias. Harmony, who was born 09/99, has the duty to look after Polar Star this year.
One of our females was bred to deliver a cria in mid-January, 2001. Females can be bred as young as one year old, but they don't reach physical maturity until the age of three. Waiting until they are three, gives them the opportunity to grow to full size and have a fully developed skeletal system to better support the weight of pregnancy.
Muffet delivered a striking white, heavy-wooled male cria
on January 10, 2001. We thought Cover Girl was going to have a cria,
too, but we were fooled by her. Go to our Cria
Page for the latest pictures.
